Men of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps on Friday rescued a day-old baby girl abandoned in a dumpsite at Dokoyirigi, in the Patigi Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The baby girl who was rescued alive was in a safe condition at the Patigi General Hospital, the NSCDC said in a statement on Friday.

The corps Public Relations Officer, Babawale Afolabi, said the timely arrival of the officials at the dumpsite saved the baby’s life.

He said, “In the early hours of Friday, one of our officers at the Patigi Divisional Office, who was on her way to the office discovered an unidentified baby girl that was later discovered to be a day old. The baby was left in a stinking dumpsite located around the Dokoyirigi area of the town.”

He disclosed further that the baby, who was already becoming unconscious, was later taken to the general hospital in Patigi where she was promptly attended to and stabilised.

Babawale said the effort was ongoing to track the mother of the girl who perpetrated the dastardly act.

He said a staff member of the hospital identified as Tsado Rachael had signified the intention to adopt the baby after perfecting the necessary documentation.
