The Police Command in Ogun has assured residents of adequate security before, during and after the Eid-el Kabir celebrations in the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, gave the assurance in a statement issued on Sunday in Ota, Ogun.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Federal Government had declared July 20 and July 21 as public holidays for Muslim faithful nationwide to celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festival.

Oyeyemi said that the police had put in place a robust security arrangement to ensure hitch-free Sallah celebrations.

“In view of the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir, the Commissioner of Police in Ogun, CP Edward Ajogun, wishes to assure residents that necessary security measures have been deployed to ensure safety of lives and property.

“Also, large scale and elaborate tactical as well as covert policemen have been strategically deployed across the length and breadth of the state, with the clear mandate of ensuring crime-free Sallah celebrations.

“Men of the special units, such as Special Weapons Tactical Team SWAT), Police Mobile Force (PMF) and Tactical Response team have been deployed.

“Intelligence units, Anti-Kidnapping and Anti-Cultism sections have also been deployed to nip in the bud any violent crime that may rear its ugly head,’’ the police spokesman said.

He also said that Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) had been directed to embark on 24-hour surveillance around various praying grounds and event/recreation centres across the state.

“All the major highways across the state are being properly patrolled to ensure free movement of people in and out of the state,” he said.

Oyeyemi stated that the CP felicitated all Muslim faithful and the good people of Ogun, while enjoining them to reflect on the reasons for the Sallah celebrations and be good ambassadors of Islam by ensuring peace at all times.

He appealed to members of the public to alert the police whenever they noticed any strange or suspicious face, gathering or movement in their domains.

This, the police spokesman said, would assist the security agencies to perform their duties at optimal level, as security was everybody’s business.
