A court in Kano State has directed the owner of a noisy cockerel in a community to kill it or face a penalty.

On Tuesday, April 4, the court gave the order after two neighbours filed a complaint.

According to the two neighbours , the cockerel constants loud crows prevent them from sleeping as it disturbs the neigbourhood.

This led to the court to order the owner, Isyaku Shu’aibu to slaughter the cockerel.

One of the plaintiffs, Yusuf Muhammed, of Ja’en quarters of Kano’s metropolis told the court that the cockerel’s relentless crowing was an infringement of his right to a restful sleep.

Mr Shu’aibu who admitted to his cockerel loud crows, asked the court to stay the judgement until Friday, April 7 as he bought the bird to celebrate Good Friday with his family.

The magistrate, Halima Wali, then ruled that Shu’aibu should cage and slaughter the cockerel on Good Friday or face a penalty.
