The Governor of Adamawa State and the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in last Saturday’s governorship election in the state, Ahmadu Fintiri has accused the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) of misleading the Returning Officer for being in bed with governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, Aishatu Dahiru, popularly known as Binani.

Fintiri who is the incumbent questioned the integrity of the REC in the state while he also accused him of misleading the Returning Officer to declare the election inconclusive.

The PDP candidate who threw allegations was asked on Channels Tv if he had the necessary evidence to back his claims.

Channels TV Journalist: Again, we have to state that governor except you have overwhelming proof, it is still your word against the words of the resident electoral commission.

Fintiri: I have just stated and you have it that day from your reporter

Channels TV Journalist: Do you have meaningful proof that monies were exchanged or some sort of incentive given?

Fintiri: Did he deny the other one he was caught on tape? The woman was in his house, did he deny that the woman was not in his house? Do I have to drop evidence of the accusation here?

Channels TV Journalist: I mean, if you have because it is important to also play it safe so that it doesn't taint the whole process

Fintiri: All we are saying is that his integrity is in question. With the kind of expectation INEC has built in this election particularly in 2019, the man should be withdrawn from Adamawa.

According to Fintiri, he was leading the APC candidate with a large margin of votes.

“Because of the inexperience and mindset of the REC, he misled the Returning Officer, there was no need for it (inconclusive).

“I was leading by over 35,000. In Ogun, he (Governor Dapo Abiodun) led by 12,000, issues in various units across the state was over 30,000 but the man was declared. The same thing with Kaduna, the same thing in several other states if you go round,” Fintiri said.

The governor also accused the REC of listing polling units (PUs) where elections were concluded and results uploaded on the INEC portal among PUs where there were problems. He said INEC should remove the REC to protect its integrity.
