2023: Kogi Christians demand right to produce next governor

Ahead of the 2023 general elections, Christians in Kogi State are seeking to produce the next governor of the state.

Under the platform of Forum of Christian Youths, FCY, in Politics, in a statement, insisted that the time has come for Kogi State to produce a governor of Christian faith in the next gubernatorial election.

The Kogi State chapter of the FCY, in a statement by its President, Emmanuel Adejoh, and Secretary, Philips Oye, after its general meeting, said though the two major religions in the State have equal population strength, the Christians have always supported their Muslim brothers to become governor because they (Christian body) are more interested in the development of the state.

According to the statement, “Since the creation of the State, the Muslim have produced by election all elected governors namely, late Abubakar Audu, Ibrahim Idris, Idris Wada and the incumbent Yahaya Bello.

“The time has come for our Muslim brothers to reciprocate this love by supporting a Christian to become the next Governor of the State in 2024. Conceding to a Christian will further strengthen the bond of love in the state, because the Christian community parades eligible and qualified politicians that can take the state to greater height.”

It listed Christians with capacity to rule the State to includes; David Onoja, Humpry Aba, Obolo Opanachi; Kolawole Matthew, Senator Dino Melaye, Philips Salawu, Senator Smart Adeyemi, Abiodun Ojo, Nicolas Ugbane.
