Supporting Tinubu as PDP member not anti-party – Fayose stresses

Ayo Fayose, the former Ekiti State governor, has reiterated that supporting President Bola Tinubu can't be described as anti-party activity despite being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Fayose, who is a chieftain of the PDP, made the statement at the PDP national convention in Abuja on Sunday.

“Nigeria is for all of us, you are first an Ekiti man before you become a political party card bearer. All the former governors are behind the current governor,” he said.

He also cited examples from international politics to support his position.

“Obama is not supporting the Democrats, the former president is not supporting Trump, have they expelled them? No, democracy will have those differences on national issues,” he stated.

Fayose further argued that support should be based on competence rather than party affiliation.

“We must not say because it’s our party member that must win when we know our party member has no capacity. Would you compare a Makinde with an Asiwaju?” He queried.
