A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, has called on the party to remain united even after the primary election.
Rhodes-Vivour made this call on Friday when he featured in an interview on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’.
According to him, the ADC now has about two million registered members, adding that the party leadership is pushing to increase the number.
The former Lagos State governorship candidate under the platform of the Labour Party also said that the ADC will not ignore the fact that there are different interests within the party eyeing the presidential ticket, who have passionate supporters.
According to him, as a party, they must manage the emotions and let people see the bigger picture.
“I’m not going to belittle the process by which a presidential candidate will emerge. And yes, there are a lot of supporters who people are passionately supporting.
“It’s not because you’re giving them money that they are passionately supporting. And as a party, we need to manage that. We need to manage those emotions with the practicality of politics.
“This comes with the messaging, not just from the party itself, but also leading candidates as well, to let people see the bigger picture, because there is no point complaining about a reality in the country, and because your candidate does not win, you just threw the baby out of the bath water.
“Everybody must come together as a united opposition, because we saw what happened in the last elections. So that is the messaging that’s going to happen with everybody,” he said.
