A former All Progressives Congress, APC, governorship aspirant in Osun State, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, has thrown his weight behind the party’s campaign strategy ahead of the 2026 general election cycle.

Ogunbiyi spoke on Saturday in Osogbo during a meeting with leaders and members of his political organisation drawn from the 30 local government areas and the Modakeke Area Office.

The gathering was convened to review developments from the APC governorship primary election conducted in December 2025 and to outline next steps for party mobilisation.

At the meeting, Ogunbiyi instructed his campaign coordinators and supporters across federal constituencies and local government areas to fully integrate into the campaign structure of the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.

He urged party members to accept the outcome of the governorship primary and to focus on strengthening the APC’s prospects in the August 8, 2026 election.

According to him, “the emergence of Oyebamiji as the party’s flagbearer has addressed long-standing expectations within Osun West Senatorial District.”

Ogunbiyi said stakeholders from the zone had consistently advocated for a governorship candidate from Osun West, adding that the development was welcomed by party members in the area.

“The most important thing now is for Bola Oyebamiji to become the elected governor of Osun State.

“If that happens, by the grace of God, I, Akin Ogunbiyi, from Iwo Federal Constituency, with the support of our leaders, will emerge as the senatorial candidate of the West,” he added.

Ogunbiyi stated that his earlier ambition to contest the governorship had been placed on hold following the conclusion of the party’s selection process.

“As for my personal vision to govern the state, that has become secondary now that the party has produced a candidate,” he said.

He disclosed that all aspirants who sought the APC governorship ticket had agreed to work together to ensure the party’s success at the polls.

“Every one of us resolved that we will work within our various constituencies to ensure that Bola Oyebamiji emerges as governor,” he added.

Ogunbiyi further said that priority attention would be given to the governorship election before pursuing other political ambitions.

He also revealed that mobilisation efforts were ongoing in Iwo Federal Constituency to secure votes for the APC.

“Voters in the three local government areas in the constituency are over 170,000. Progressives can count on Iwo,” Ogunbiyi said.

DAILY POST recalls that Ogunbiyi and six other aspirants were disqualified from participating in the APC governorship primary held on December 13, 2025, over alleged irregularities in their nomination processes.

Ogunbiyi, who was the flagbearer of the Accord Party during the 2022 governorship election, defected to the APC in Osun, describing the move as a pathway to the Osun West Senatorial District.

He had campaigned under the slogan of bringing neglected development to Osun West, which many observers see as the most underdeveloped zone in the state.

Bola Oyebamiji later emerged as the party’s candidate through an affirmation process
