The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun has suspended the senator representing Ogun East and former governor of the state, Gbenga Daniel, over allegations of engaging in anti-party activities.

Daniel was suspended along with Hon. Kunle Folarin for the same reason. This was announced in a statement by Nuberu Olufemi, the director of publicity of the APC and made available to journalists in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Tuesday, August 20.

According to Vanguard, Olufemi explained that Daniel and Folarin were suspended by their wards, which were Ward 4 and Ward 6, in the Sagamu local government area of the state. The move followed their failure to appear before a disciplinary committee, which was set up to review the complaints against them.

The statement reads in part: “In exercise of its powers, the State Working Committee of the APC in Ogun State affirms the suspension of Senator Gbenga Daniel and Hon.

Kunle Folarin by their respective wards.” The statement further explained that the report of the disciplinary committee was reviewed by the APC state working committee, led by Chief Yemi Sanusi, on Tuesday, August 19. According to the party, the suspension of the former governor was in line with due process, as It emphasised the importance of upholding discipline and procedures, adding that the suspension would give room for further review and the outcome of the internal processes.

This came days after Daniel accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of allegedly ordering the demolition of his residence and hotels in the Sagamu area of the state. The Ogun state government has ordered the demolition of his private residence, the Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels Limited, and the hotel annexe in Sagamu.

Senator Daniel stated that the governor's order was conveyed through notices of contravention, quit, and threat of demolition, which were to be posted on the properties within the next three days, and were pasted on the properties on Friday, August 8, at approximately 4 pm.

Daniel’s media aide, Steve Oliyide, disclosed this in a statement signed on Saturday, August 9, 2025. He said the move to demolish his properties is clear political persecution. He added that the allegations levelled against him are deeply rooted in a thuggish and political vindictiveness at its highest level.
