Suspected thugs from Southern Ijaw allegedly led by a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress invaded polling units in the Sagbama local government area of Bayelsa State.

The incident occurred at about 9 a.m. in Agorogbene, Units 6, 7 and 8 in Ward 11 of the local government area as the off-cycle governorship election is underway.

The armed thugs were reported to have shot indiscriminately, destroyed some election materials and drove away voters.

It was gathered that although attempts were made to challenge the armed men, they replied with heavy gunshots.

Meanwhile, some armed thugs arrived at the Registration Area Center (RAC) centre and carted away election materials for five out of the seven units.

Report indicates that the APC ward 11 chairman was alleged to have led the armed thugs.

Also, gunmen stormed Ogiadiama Ward 9 at Unit 14 of the Southern Ijaw local government area, but were overpowered by security operatives.

At about 3.30 a.m. on Saturday, gunshots were heard around the Abuja/Imbikiri area of Brass Ward 2.

Some gunmen suspected to be APC members reportedly attacked the RAC centre in Oginibiri, Brass - Ward 8, however they met resistance.

Causalities have been recorded at Famgbe in the Yenagoa local government area, as some suspected APC thugs engaged in a gun duel with security agents.
