Tribunal to announce date for election petition judgement

L-R: Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar L-R: Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar

The Presidential Election Petition Tribunal Court (PEPC) on Tuesday, August 1 said it would announce the date it will deliver the verdict on the petitions brought by Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP).

The court’s Presiding Justice, Justice Haruna Tsammani made the disclosure after lawyers of the petitioners and respondents made their last submissions after adopting their written addresses.

Former president Atiku Abubakar and the PDP had their petition taken by the Tribunal during the morning session while Peter Obi and the Labour Party also had their petition adopted during the afternoon session which ended around 5:30 pm.

Both petitions were asked to be dismissed by the Lawyers of the respondents as they believe they lack merit.

Abubakar Mahmoud (SAN) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Wole Olanipekun (SAN) for President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettma, and Lateef Fagbemi (SAN) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) prayed the court to dismiss the petitions by the opposition parties as they believe it lacks concrete evidence.
