Palliatives underway to cushion effect of subsidy removal – Tinubu announces

President Bola Tinubu President Bola Tinubu

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured that measures are being devised to mitigate the impact of the removal of fuel subsidy.

Politics Nigeria reports that he conveyed this message in an interactive session with Nigerian residents in France and neighbouring European countries on the sidelines of the New Global Financing Pact Summit in Paris.

Recall that in his inaugural address, the President emphasised that the era of subsidy had come to an end due to the absence of budgetary allocations for such purposes.

Regarding his success in persuading Organized Labour to abandon their planned protest against the subsidy removal, President Tinubu stated, “If you are demanding an increase in palliative funds and transportation support, what exactly are you protesting? Are you expecting a share of the subsidy? If you choose to protest, I will join you in that protest, and they backed down. No protests.”

He further explained, “We will ensure the availability of palliatives, but it is essential to save the funds in order to implement these measures.”
