The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) executives in Imo State have resigned from their various positions in the state chapter of the party's leadership.

Collins Opuozor, the PDP publicity secretary, along with other party leaders, disclosed the development to journalists in Owerri, the Imo State capital on Sunday, June 18, Vanguard reported.

The aggrieved PDP executives alleged that the party candidate in the forthcoming November governorship election in the state, Samuel Anyanwu, was deploying the instrument of violence, and intimidation against them while making attempts to harm them.

Anyanwu emerged as the governorship candidate of the PDP in the forthcoming election in the state and was subsequently listed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The PDP candidate will be contesting against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate and sitting governor of the state, Hope Uzodinma, who is seeking for re-election to his second term in office.

The November election in Imo State is one of the off-season elections in Nigeria and it will be done alongside two other states, which are Kogi and Bayelsa.

Like in Imo State, the APC is also the ruling party in Kogi State, while the PDP is the ruling party in Bayelsa State, giving the upper hand to the umbrella party in the south-south state in the forthcoming election.
