2023: Yahaya Bello's presidential bid suffers setback; ordered to shelve his ambition

Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi state has been advised to jettison his ambition to become President Muhammadu Buhari's successor in 2023.

Vanguard reports a support group within the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday, April 8, 2021, asked Governor Bello to support calls for the zoning of the national chairmanship of the party to the northcentral geopolitical zone of the country.

Legit.ng gathered that while speaking at the national secretariat of the party in Abuja, the North Central Council of APC led by its coordinator, Kassim Muhammad commended Governor Mai Mala Buni-led party's caretaker committee.

He said at the completion of the committee’s terms of office, the APC would need a committed, energetic, dynamic and experienced party man to pilot the affairs of the party.

Muhammed added that the North Central Council has appealed to Governor Bello to have a rethink over his 2023 presidential ambition, adding that it would be fair in the spirit of one Nigeria to allow the southern part of the country to produce the next president in 2023.

The APC chieftain said:

“We strongly believe that conceding the presidential ticket of our party, the APC to the southern part of the country would enhance equity and political justice. We believe that the Kogi state governor is a true democrat who believes in one Nigeria."

It also appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari and all the APC governors and other key stakeholders of the party to continue to support Governor Buni-led APC to succeed in his task of repositioning the party for future elections.
