Nigerian civic organisation, BudgIT has called for the probe of the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa over allegations regarding the conversion of public funds to personal use.
The Civic society drew attention to accusations of financial impropriety and misappropriation of N257m, N17m, N53m and an estacode of N80m for himself and 18 others for diversion into personal pockets.
BudgIT believes that the Lago State legislature is highly culpable and fraudulent.
It used the opportunity to call attention to the ICPC and EFCC to investigate these allegations. Also, it demanded a solid framework for fiscal transparency amongst states and national legislatures.
"BudgIT calls on the ICPC and EFCC to be proactive in investigating these allegations to show their seriousness in fighting corruption in the country, as well as to elevate public confidence in the government.
"We also encourage other Civil Society Organisations to be bold in their advocacy and commitment to an open and inclusive government that encourages accountability and foster development at the national and subnational levels," it said in a statement.
The recent allegations of misappropriation of funds against Hon. @mudashiru_obasa calls for thorough investigation from the @ICPC_PE and @officialEFCC. Now more than ever, both state and national legislatures need a solid #framework for fiscal transparency.
