Popular joiurnalist and political commentator, Rufai Oseni has called out the National Assembly folowing reports that its to get N70 billion in the 2022 Supplementary Appropriation Bill to improve the working conditions of its new members.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had within the week forwarded a bill to amend the 2022 Supplementary Act to the National Assembly. The supplementary Bill had earlier been passed by the ninth assembly.

In the bill, farmers who suffered the devastating 2022 floods across the country, will be getting N19 billion while eight thousand naira has been budgeted to be distributed to 12 million Nigerian household to mitigate the bite from the removal of subsidy.

Reacting to the budget allocated to the National Assembly, Rufai says he is shocked by the request of the lawmakers amid rising poverty nationwide.

He made this known on Fridy, July 14.

"The 19.2 billion for addressing the massive destruction of our farmlands, I support that too but how are they going to spend that money? How is it going to trickle down to basic farmers? Then the 500 billion for the palliatives, this time around they are saying that they are going to use wallet. They have always talked about wallets in the past but how can we effectively authenticate the amount and how much is really going to these farmers?" he quizzed.

"Personally, I have never been in support of this handout because they get it muddled up in Nigeria."

He continued: "And for the lawmakers that want to collect 70 billion, let the poor breadth. Fear God! Fear God! Let the poor breadth. People are crying and you still have the temerity, effrontery, the unmitigated nerve to even put your money in this while the poor are suffering."
