Wike shouldn't attack me, it is dangerous - Umahi warns Rivers governor

Ebonyi state governor, Engr Dave Umahi, has described his Rivers state counterpart, Nyesom Wike, as a dictator.

Umahi made the comment while reacting to Wike's criticisms of his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Wike had in a press briefing said, Umahi left the PDP to join the APC because of his desperation to be president of the country in 2023.

Speaking to Arise TV on Wednesday, November 18, Umahi said: “I refused to join issues with Wike because he is my friend. But Wike must know that he is a dictator. Wike must know that one person cannot be called a crowd. Wike must know that a lot of governors in PDP are not very happy with him. He remote controls the party.”

The back and forth between both governors is now a trending topic on social media with Nigerians giving their thoughts on the issue.

John Femi wrote on Twitter: “Just watching Umahi's defection speech and Governor Wike's reaction. I can't just help but laugh. In Nigeria, there's no permanent friend or foe. There's just permanent personal interest.”

Chike Udevi wrote: “Dave Umahi is a typical Nigerian politician, I am not surprised by his actions … I only blame Nigeria's political settings. But he could have simply said, he left because of a new challenge … I think it would have been better than poor injustice.”

Ogenyi Kingsley wrote: “If a presidential ticket should be given to the Igbos then not to a sycophant like Umahi.”

Henry Chuks Uzor wrote: “Dave Umahi calling Governor Wike a dictator is very shameful. If not for the Lion nature of Governor Wike, PDP was already dead on arrival. Dave Umahi should be very thankful to Wike for sustaining the platform on which he became attractive to APC.”
