A very disturbing video has surfaced online showcasing a split on the Ajaokuta-Itobe bridge in Kogi State.

Commuters expressed great worry over the bridge that was already splitting into two.

As a result, road users travelling on different ends were forced to halt their journey momentarily.

The Ajaokuta-Itobe bridge serves as an access road linking the North with the Southeast and Southsouth part of the country.

The commuter who took the video said: " the bridge don break in two. It is too wide o"

However, the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) responded to that video, saying that the bridge was intact and could hold for the next 100 years.

According to a report obtained from Daily Trust, Engineer Adenusi who conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the affected area, allayed fears of an imminent bridge collapse.

He said the affected area was an expression joint which was rather harmless to road users. He noted that the bridge had nine of such expression joints on both sides of the highway, which are to prevent the opposing rods from colliding.

He reassured commuters not to panic, saying that the assessed areas were been taken into account by the Government and a contractor would be mobilised to the site soon.

Nigerians reacted to the news.
