This is the second time the lawmaker, and strong ally of the leader of the Kwankwassiyah Movement, Rabiu Kwankwaso, would be visiting Tinubu behind closed doors in less than two weeks.

The meeting, which lasted almost two hours, was held from 9 pm till around 11 pm on Sunday.

Although the lawmaker did not reveal details of the meeting, inside sources said it may not be unconnected to the relationship between former Kano State governor, Kwankwaso, and the President and the anti-APC sentiments in some quarters in the North.

Asked about the purpose of the second meeting by State House Correspondents, the lawmaker declined to comment further. Ten days earlier, when he visited, Jibrin had told the reporters that he discussed “issues of national development“ with the President.

This is coming amid alignment and realignment among politicians in Nigeria. Some opposition leaders, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, former governors of Kaduna and Rivers, Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, have formed a coalition with the hope of unseating President Tinubu in the 2027 election.

Before now, there have been speculations that Kwankwaso, the leader of the Kwankwasiyyah Movement, was planning to dump the NNPP for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) following his series of meetings with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 elections.

Also, the APC national chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, recently commented on the rumour of Kwankwaso's defection, adding that the door of the party is open for the Kano-born politician, who gathered millions of votes to come fourth in the 2023 presidential election.

Yilwatda made the comment while speaking on Channels TV shortly after his emergence as the ruling party's national chairman on Thursday, July 24. During the interview, he was asked about Kwankwaso's possible interview. He said the doors of the APC are always open.

His response reads in part: “Our doors are open. When everybody’s time is due, it will manifest itself, and that is also for everybody who has come back to the APC.”
