There won’t be anarchy if you're removed – LP joins Rufai Oseni in dismissing President Tinubu's 'anarchy' comment

The Labour Party says there won't be anarchy in Nigeria if Bola Tinubu is removed as President by the court.

The President through his lawyer, Wole Olanipekun had asked the presidential election tribunal to throw away the petition filed by the Labour Party seeking to nullify his victory in the 2023 February 25 elections on the grounds that he did not secure 25% of votes cast in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In the final address written to the tribunal, Mr Olanipekun claimed the FCT is the 37th state for electoral purposes. He noted further that any other interpretation would “lead to absurdity, chaos, anarchy and alteration of the very intention of the legislature”.

However, in reaction to this, the LP in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, said Tinubu’s remarks were unnecessary since the matter is before the court.

“We insist that no amount of threat from the APC on the judges in the tribunal can change the processes and requirements that the law has put in place. It must be followed and that is the position of the Labour Party.

“Let me assure the APC and their leaders that if there were no absurdity, chaos, and anarchy when they forced their way into power, Nigeria will still witness peace when they are eventually evicted from power,” Ifoh’s statement read in part.

The statement buttresses a previous statement by popular journalist, Rufai Oseni who
a day earlier stressed that there won't be anarchy in Nigeria if the president is removed from office.

He made this known on the Whats Trending segment of the Arise TV morning show on Monday, July 17 said "They won't be anarchy in Nigeria despite the president's comment.

"For me, it is the tribunal that will rule on the 25 per cent, whatever they come out with, for or against. I dont think the interpretation of the law of the country will cause any anarchy. We need to stop fanning the embers and everything," he said.

"I know that the statement was from the deposition of his lawyer (Tinubu) Wole Olanipekun because they are having their final deposition before they make a judgement on the matter."

"It is for him to make his case and it is the court that will rule. There is no going to be anarchy."
