'There's collapse in govt, leadership in Nigeria is crippled' - APC chieftain

Pat Utomi Pat Utomi

Pat Utomi, a renowned economist and former presidential aspirant, has lamented what he termed as "crippled" leadership and lack of good governance in Nigeria.

Speaking on Sunday, August 30, during an appearance on Channels TV's Sunday Politics, Utomi said there is lack of sacrificial efforts in the present government to lift people up.

The political economy professor, who is also a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), decried that the nation’s political class has failed to align itself to the new reality.

According to him, the current President Muhammadu Buhari-led government is "confused" and lacked the type of politics that would facilitate responsiveness to the demands and agitation of the people.

"I think that the government is crippled; it is not connecting to the solution,” the renowned professor decried.

“If there is anything absent in Nigeria, it is leadership. At every level of our society, there is a failure of leadership.

“Leadership is about connecting to the soul of the people and giving everything sacrificially to lift it up.”

Utomi also lamented the collapse of separation of power, further highlighting that the power of the executive has been usurped by members of the National Assembly (NASS).

“There is a total collapse of separation of powers and the legislature has taken over running the executive and the executive is complicit in allowing that to happen," he further added.
