Jos, Plateau state - Colonel Mohammed Mana (rtd), a former military governor of Plateau state, is dead.
As reported by The Nation, President Bola Tinubu, in a statement, expressed grief over Mana's death.
Mana, also a former senator passed away on Saturday, August 23, in Abuja, Daily Trust noted.
The late Mana, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, represented Adamawa North Senatorial district between 2007 and 2011.
Until his death, he also served as chairman of the party’s reconciliation committee in Adamawa state.
Tinubu mourns Mohammed Mana
In a condolence message by presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described the deceased as a “distinguished patriot and officer gentleman” who dedicated his life to the service of Nigeria, both in and out of military uniform. He praised Mana’s contributions to national development and his consistent pursuit of the common good.
Commiserating with the family, friends, and associates of the late ex-military administrator, Tinubu said: “His counsel and leadership will be sorely missed."
Furthermore, the Nigerian leader extended condolences to the government and people of Adamawa state, as well as members of the APC family in the state who, he noted, benefited immensely from Mana’s wisdom and guidance. He prayed for the peaceful repose of Mana’s soul and for strength for his family to bear the loss.
Legit.ng gathered that the late Mana left behind children and wives. His funeral prayer was held on Saturday, August 23, at the Abuja National Mosque, in line with Islamic rites.
Plateau governor sad over Mana's death
In the same vein, Caleb Mutfwang, governor of Plateau, expressed sorrow over Mana's death.
In a condolence message, Mutfwang described the death of Colonel Mana as a monumental loss, not only to his immediate family but also to the people of Plateau state and Nigeria at large.
Mutfwang, in a statement by his spokesperson, Gyang Bere, commended Mana’s "crucial role" in promoting peace, unity, and national cohesion during and beyond his time in office.
He urged the family and associates of the late statesman to take solace in the enduring legacy of his 'exemplary life of service'.
Adamawa governor lauds late Mana
Also, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, governor of Adamawa state, mourned Mana's demise.
He said in a statement shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) page on Saturday, August 23:
"It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of Col. Muhammad Mana (Former Military Administrator, Plateau state and senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria)— a patriot, statesman, and worthy son of Adamawa. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannatul Firdaus, and comfort his family and all who mourn."
Tinubu reacts as Abiola's wife dies
Earlier, Legit.ng reported that President Tinubu penned a heartfelt tribute to veteran journalist Doyinsola Hamidat Abiola, the wife of Moshood Kashimawao Olawale (MKO) Abiola, winner of the annulled June 12, 1993, presidential election.
Hamidat died at the age of 82 after an illness.
