Report indicates that supporters of the immediate past governor of Rivers state, Nyesom Wike, and the Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate during the March election in Rivers state, Magnus Abe, are currently at loggerheads over the ministerial position for the state.

On the part of Tony Okocha, a key loyalist of Wike, he believes the past governor should be appointed a minister after delivering the state for President Bola Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

Okocha, a former chief of staff to former governor Rotimi Amaechi, called on President Tinubu to award the ministerial position for Rivers state to Wike.

Speaking in a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, July 4, Okocha noted that Nyesom Wike worked hard for Tinubu’s victory during the presidential election, and that he would accept Wike as his leader if he decides to join the All Progressives Congress (APC).

However, Abe’s ally, Kadilo Kabari, a collaborator of the Bola Tinubu/Kashim Shettima Independent Campaign Council (ICC), disagreed saying that the former federal lawmaker, Magnus Abe, was the first to declare his support for Tinubu and publicly worked for him.

During an interview with the press on Wednesday, July 5, Kabari condemned the campaign of calumny against Abe.

He said;

"We condemn the campaign of calumny against Distinguished Senator Magnus Abe and other political actors while cautioning that pursuits should be personalised with honesty, capacity, merit, truth, and fairness as yardsticks.”
