A former Senator in the Eighth National Assembly, Shehu Sani has shared more details on the suspension of Senator Abdul Ahmed Ningi.

This comes after the Senator was suspended by the Senate for three months for accusing the Senate of allegedly padding the 2024 budget.

Shehu Sani who was reacting to the suspension shared his experience on X (formerly called Twitter). The former Kaduna Central lawmaker said he was only saved by former Senate President Bukola Saraki when he publicly disclosed the salaries and running costs of lawmakers.

"It was the then Senate president who saved me from Suspension. If you talk too much, your body go tell you, that is why even opposition no fit oppose too much," he said in the tweet.

Following the suspension of Ningo, Sani explained the punishment Ahmed Ningi is likely to face with this suspension.

"Suspension in the Senate means a Senator will not be allowed to attend the plenary and will be prohibited from attending committee meetings and participating in oversight functions," he tweeted.

"His Salary, allowances and all entitlements will be blocked. He will not have access to his office and is expected not to be seen within the premises of the National Assembly until the suspension is lifted," he added.

Ningi's suspension came after he disclosed in an interview that President Bola Tinubu was running the country with a budget higher than what was discussed and passed by the National Assembly.

Shortly after the majority of the lawmakers voted for the suspension of Ningi, the leadership of the house reportedly went into a closed-door meeting with President Tinubu.

Meanwhile, Senator Ningi has resigned as the chairman of the Northern Senators Forum. The Senator representing Bauchi Central made it public shortly after his suspension.

Ningi, in a letter sent to the forum, wrote, “I will like to resign my position as the Chairman of the Northern Senators forum.
