Former Presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore has taken a swipe at former presidential aide Reno Omokri, after his name was included in the list of 32 ambassadorial nominees submitted by President Bola Tinubu.
Sowore, in a recent interview, said he wasn't shocked at the appointment of Omokri, claiming that the social media commentator needed the appointment to survive.
Recall that Omokri's appointment raised eyebrows when it was announced.
"Reno Omokri, that one is jobless. He needs the ambassadorship position to survive. You are worried about Reno Omokri and not worried about Okezie Ikpeazu, the person I used to call onye slippers, whose only achievement in Abia State is producing slippers. So there is nobody there that you can consider a human being. These are people who are rewarded by their lord and saviour," he said.
Over the weekend, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has forwarded a second batch of 32 ambassadorial nominees to the Senate for screening and confirmation, barely days after submitting an initial list of three nominees.
In two separate letters addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, President Tinubu requested the Senate to expedite action on the confirmation of 15 career ambassadors and 17 non-career ambassadorial nominees. The latest list includes four women among the career nominees and six women on the non-career roster.
Prominent figures on the non-career list include former presidential aide Reno Omokri (Delta); former INEC chairman, Prof. Mahmud Yakubu; former Ekiti First Lady, Erelu Angela Adebayo; former Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi; and Barrister Ogbonnaya Kalu from Abia State.
Others are former Speaker of the Katsina House of Assembly, Tasiu Musa Maigari; ex-UBEC deputy executive secretary, Yakubu N. Gambo; former Plateau senator, Prof. Nora Ladi Daduut; former Lagos deputy governor, Otunba Femi Pedro; and former aviation minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode.
Additional nominees include Barrister Nkechi Linda Ufochukwu (Anambra); former Oyo First Lady, Fatima Florence Ajimobi; ex-Lagos Commissioner, Lola Akande; former Adamawa senator, Grace Bent; former Abia governor, Okezie Ikpeazu; Senator Jimoh Ibrahim; and former envoy to the Holy See, Ambassador Paul Oga Adikwu.
