The Labour Party Governorship candidate, Mr Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour is one of the main contenders in the governorship election in Lagos state.

He is born to Barrister Olawale and Mrs. Nkechi Rhodes-Vivour. The former justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria and jurist Bode Rhodes-Vivour is his uncle, while the late Judge Akinwunmi Rhodes-Vivour is his grandfather.

He is the great-grandson of Steven Bankole Rhodes, the second-ever indigenous judge appointed in Nigeria.

While his root cannot be questioned, his candidature has generated controversy as his links to the secessionist group the Indigenous People of Biafra resurfaced.

In some old tweets that were dug out since he announced his candidacy, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour tweeted in defence of the actions of the separatist group.

It was also discovered that in 2019, he contested for a senatorial seat in Lagos with the name “Chinedu Rhodes-Vivour”, which struck the nerves of some core-Yoruba folks.

This has led to claims of he has a hidden agenda for wanting to become the governor of Lagos state.

The Labour Party candidate is set to contest against APC’s Babajide Sanwaolu and PDP’s Abdul-Azeez Olajide Adediran a.k.a Jandor in the upcoming election on March 11.

GRV as he is fondly called is an MIT graduate.

Like his father, he is married to an Igbo woman, Dr Ifeyinwa Rhodes-Vivour (Ph.D).
