PDP berates Tinubu, says 150m Nigerians can’t afford daily meals

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu President Bola Ahmed Tinubu

The Peoples Democratic Party has said no fewer than 150 million Nigerians are finding it difficult to afford daily basic meals three months after President Bola Tinubu took office as President.

This is as The main opposition party said the nation was on the edge of the precipice because the government “lacks the acceptability and followership of citizens; a situation that has created an atmosphere and feeling of absence of governance in the country.”

The party stated this on Monday in a press statement issued in Abuja and signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Debo Ologunagba.

The statement read in part, “It is horrifying that in the last two months, over 150 million Nigerians can no longer afford their daily meals with families now going to bed on empty stomachs.

“Instead of protecting Nigerians, the APC government is desperate to plunge our nation into a needless war in Niger Republic over a conflict in that nation that does not constitute any threat whatsoever to our National Interest.

“Our party is concerned that the general sense of despondency, anxiety, distress and disconnection in the country, if not urgently addressed, could deteriorate into a serious crisis.”

Reacting, the Publicity Director of the APC, Bala Ibrahim, stated that it was “unfortunate the PDP was showing strains of fatigue and guilt.”

He said, “The PDP is portraying itself as a guilty party. It is simply admitting to all its weaknesses and faults which had resulted in the state Nigerians have been put in today. The government of the APC under President Bola Tinubu is doing everything to bring about a Renewed Hope to Nigerians.

“The PDP failed to take the bull by the horns. If the list of the fuel subsidy beneficiaries is to be made public, I can assure you the bulk of that list will be PDP members who have squandered the resources of the country and who lacked the shame to tell Nigerians ‘we engaged in squander-mania for the entire period we ruled the country’.

“Now the government of APC is trying to introduce corrections and measures to restore sanity and bring back hope. But because they know at the end of the day people will reap what they sow, and they will be condemned, that is why the PDP has embarked on these antics just to confuse or dissuade the minds of Nigerians from the directional leadership the APC government is bringing. There is nothing more.”

The APC publicity director also chided the opposition party for attempting to play politics with the recent abduction of some corps members, saying it was under the PDP administration the nation witnessed arbitrary kidnap cases, including the infamous ‘Chibok girls’ abduction.

Ibrahim stated that it was the reason the majority of Nigerians vowed not to bring back the PDP into power.

“For a party under whose watch or leadership Chibok girls were abducted and stayed in abduction for an endless period of time before they were rescued, even if it was done piecemeal under the leadership of the APC, to be talking about some corps members being kidnapped is shameful. They should bury their heads in shame and revisit their conscience.

“Nigerians have relegated them to the backseat and never will they ever vote for the PDP again. Atiku will attack Asiwaju today, tomorrow it will be the turn of Shettima, and the next day it will look for any person. I can tell you for free that after he has failed in his quest to request his (Tinubu’s) academic qualifications and make Nigerians buy into his alleged criminality, the next thing he may likely say is that the president is not a Nigerian. I don’t know where he may look to take that case,” he said.
