PDP: Wike gives reasons for backing off from party activities

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike has said he remains a member of the largest opposition party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

His comments come after he was threatened to be expelled from the party.

Recall, Wike is at loggerheads with the hierarchy of the PDP even before the 2023 presidential election.

Wike at the time believed that the party maintained its power-sharing formula by zoning the presidential ticket to the south.

The party's failure to zone the ticket to the south led to the former Rivers State Governor working for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Bola Ahmed Tinubu emerged as President and appointed Wike as a Minister.

“I am a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),” he said during a media parley with selected journalists in Abuja. “Have you ever seen me change anything?

Wike has been absent from major meetings of the PDP and has not been seen campaigning for them in the recent off-cycle elections, he does not regret his action.

“The one I supported before, what happened? I have decided to take a break. As you see me now, everybody should carry their cross,” Wike maintained.
