The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) says the party will accept the former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) Rabi’u Kwankwaso, should he opt to join the party.
This notice was given by National Chairman of the party, Prof Nentawe Yilwatda, said this on Sunday in an interview on Trust TV.
“Our doors are still open for Kwankwaso to join the APC. If he comes, he’s mostly welcome. Though we are not yet in negotiation with him yet,” he said.
The notice to the former Kano State Governor comes after the defection of his political godson, and the only NNPP governor, Abba Yusuf of Kano State, last Friday, officially defected to the APC, alongside members of the State House of Assembly.
The defection of Abba Yusuf remains a shock to Kwankwaso as he helped him become governor of the state in 2023.
“Frankly, it came as a big shock, not just to me, but to many Nigerians. To be honest, even now, it still feels unreal. Sometimes I lie down and feel like it was all a dream. The way the whole thing happened left many people confused,” Kwankwaso had said.
