Ondo election: We entertain no fear, APC says as Jegede heads to tribunal

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has reacted to the decision of the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Eyitayo Jegede, to challenged the Ondo governorship election at the tribunal.

The Sun reported that the party said it entertains no fear over, adding that its candidate in the election, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, is also not worried.

Legit.ng gathers that the Ondo state publicity secretary of the party, Alex Kalejaiye said the party is prepared to meet Jegede at the tribunal.

He said the APC and Governor Akeredolu are convinced that the PDP candidate will lose at the tribunal the same way he lost the poll.

Kaleyaiye said the APC won the October 10 governorship election overwhelmingly, hence its belief that it will emerge victorious at the tribunal.

The APC spokesman, however, said Jegede’s action is in order as it is a democratic and constitutional way through which he can challenge the outcome of the last election.

Earlier, Legit.ng reported that Jegede dragged the candidate of the APC, Governor Akeredolu, before the Ondo state election petition tribunal.

Governor Akeredolu won in 15 out of the 18 local government areas to defeat Jegede with a wide margin at the polls.

However, the PDP candidate is not accepting the result and is challenging Akeredolu's victory.

Legit.ng gathered that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, and the deputy governor-elect, Lucky Aiyedatiwa were included as defendants in the petition.
