Ahead of the forthcoming governorship election in Ondo state, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu has accused his deputy, Agboola Ajayi, of planning to rig the poll.

Ajayi is challenging Akeredolu for the governorship seat on the platform of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP).

According to The Nation, Akeredolu claimed that Ajayi was plotting to militarise Ilaje local government area during the governorship poll.

He alleged that the plan was aimed to intimidate the people and discourage them from coming out to vote with a view to giving the ZLP a conducive atmosphere to rig the election in favour of Ajayi.

Legit.ng gathers that Akeredolu made the allegation through the spokesman for his campaign organisation, Olatunde Richard.

Richard claimed that Ilaje people were determined to vote massively for the All Progressives Congress (APC) because Akeredolu's running mate is from the local government.

He said the people must be allowed to exercise their franchise without intimidation or fear on the election day just as he urged the security agencies to intervene and save Ondo state from electoral violence.

Reacting to the allegation, Ajayi's chief press secretary, Babatope Okeowo, said the APC was jittery because of the popularity of the ZLP and its candidate.

He said: "The people will speak with their votes and vote for ZLP and Agboola Ajayi."
