Former Minister of Works, Adeseye Ogunlewe has described the ministerial nomination of former governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike as a compensation for his role in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's victory in the February 25 polls.

Wike, a chieftain of the major opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was named in the 18 first batch of ministerial nominees unveiled by the Senate on Thursday, July 27.

The nomination did not come as a surprise to many as the former Rivers State governor has been a thorn in the flesh of Atiku Abubakar and the PDP as a whole.

Though his nomination not entirely surprisingly drawing from his frequent visit to the presidency after President Bola Tinubu was inaugurated, it has however raised eyebrows if the Wike will defect to the ruling APC.

Speaking in an interview with Shehu on Channels TV's Politics Today ahead of Monday's ministerial screening of President Tinubu's nominees, Ogunlewe noted that, Wike's nominated was a compensation for his contribution to APC's victory in the presidential polls.

“It is so easy to decipher, if you're following developments that cumulated to the last election, you'll know the role that Wike played, and you must give him a compensation for that role, the former minister noted.”
