The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, governorship candidate in Kogi State, Senator Dino Melaye has played down the help he got from Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike in 2019 when he ran to be governor of Kogi State.

Recall that the spokesperson of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council (PDP PCC) in an interview early this week said that Wike sponsored his governorship campaigns in 2015.

According to the former senator, Wike was the leading sponsor in his 2019 governorship campaign.

He made the comment after Wike described Dino's aspiration to be governor of the state as a joke.

“For Christ’s sake, Dino does not have what it takes to be a governor at all. It is not by coming to act in drama on television. We are talking about governance of a state, we are not talking about drama for Christ’s sake,” Mr Wike said on Tuesday during a media chat in Port Harcourt.

However, Dino in an interview on Arise TV on Wednesday, April 19 has noted that Wike was also supported by the party and several other stakeholders within the party including Former First Lady Patience Jonathan.

He said: "That you supported me doesn't mean that you will ask for my liver and kidney. I will not give it. And let me say that Wike himself has always been supported and he owes PDP a lot and anything he is doing for any individual in PDP is like giving back to what the party has done for him."

"Governor Peter Odile made him Chairman of his local government, so he has been helped by somebody. After Governor Odili helped him, Governor Amaechi made him Chief of Staff. Governor Amaechi helped him. The same Amaechi nominated him to be Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria."

"Mrs Goodluck Jonathan spent her money and connections and everything to make him the governor of Rivers State. So everyone gets helped by one person or the other."

Dino Melaye, emerged winner of the primary with 313 votes. Yomi Awoniyi came second with 77 votes.
