As the November 11 governorship election in Kogi State draws closer, the New Nigeria People’s Party has collapsed its structure for the governorship candidate of the Labour Party, Adejoh Okeme.

No fewer than 500 former members of the NNPP across the 21 local government areas of the state were welcomed into the party at a ceremony held at the Labour Party secretariat in Lokoja on Sunday.

The NNPP Zonal Chairman, Kabir Maman, who led supporters to declare support for Okeme, said the decision to join forces with the Labour Party followed a careful deliberation and scrutiny of all the governorship candidates and their parties.

“We are particularly fascinated by his promise to revive Ajaokuta Steel Company to create job opportunities for our teaming youths.

“We also see him as someone under whose resources of the state will be safe and ensure that everyone gets what is due to them,” Maman.

The Kogi State Chairman of the Labour Party, Alhaji Abdul Suleiman, alongside other party’s executive members, received the defectors.

“You are coming into a party where every member is equal. Irrespective of when you join, we are one and the same, no one is above the other,” Suleiman told the defectors.

He urged the party not to sideline the women.

“Infrastructural development, youth and women empowerment, sports development and local government autonomy will form the fulcrum of our administration as from 27th January 2024 when we will assume the position of governorship,” Okeme said.
