Is he God? - Obaseki lambastes Oshiomhole again as he vows to bury him

The Edo state governor and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the coming election, Godwin Obaseki, said part of the reasons his predecessor, Adams Oshiomhole, is against his reelection bid is his reversal of the sale of Edaiken Market.

According to him, the ex-governor and former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) had sold the market to his friends.

“I reversed the sale of Edaiken Market and brought the rates down to the level that our people can afford. That pitted me against the godfather. He said that I cannot be a governor. Is he God? Are we fools?" he queried.

The governor noted that the battle over who wins the forthcoming election is between him and Oshiomhole, and not the flagbearer of the APC, Osagie Ize-Iyamu.

This was disclosed during the governorship election campaign in wards 8 and 10, Egor local government area of the state.

Obaseki expressed optimism that he will win the election as he assured the people of Edo state that Oshiomhole will be rendered politically irrelevant on September 19.

“We will bury Oshiomhole politically. We have retired him and on September 19, 2020, we will bury him politically,” he said.

The Edo leader said the September 19 election will put an end to godfatherism in the state.

Describing Oshiomhole as a "dangerous" person, he asked why he would not allow another person to rule the way that suits him after finishing his tenure.

He accused Oshiomhole of destroying the APC which was put under his care.

He urged the people not to stay away from the polls but to come out in large numbers to vote for the PDP so he can continue his good works in the south-south state.

In less than two weeks, the people of Edo state will be heading to the polls to pick a new leader who will govern the state for another four years.

A number of political parties are taking part in the election but it appears the battle is between Obaseki of the PDP and Ize-Iyamu of the APC.

As they fight for who will occupy the number one position in the state, both parties have been attacking and throwing accusations at each other. As a result of this, many have predicted that the election will be marred by violence.

Meanwhile, the Oba of Benin has warned political actors in Edo to de-escalate the tension in the state.

Giving the charge on Wednesday, September 2, during a peace meeting he had with the leading candidates in the election, he asked them to emulate ex-President Goodluck Jonathan.
