Edo First Lady, Mrs Betsy Obaseki, has met with wives of Dukes (Enigies) in the state to sensitise them on the need to re-elect Governor Godwin Obaseki, in the September 19 governorship election.

Mrs Obaseki asked the Enigies' wives to judge as mothers whether it is in the best interest of the people to mortgage the future of the state and the children, to satisfy a few people and whether the state has not fared better in the past three and a half years under Governor Obaseki.

She further said that people get the government they deserve and that now is the time for the people of Edo state to stand for good governance.

The Enigies' wives assured the First Lady of their unflinching support for Governor Godwin Obaseki’s second term bid.

They cited his developmental strides in the educational sector, road construction, human capital development, empowerment and job creation among others.

The coordinator of the Enigie Wives Association, Stella Aigbe, said she is campaigning for good governance based on what they have seen on ground.

Her words: “I am campaigning for good governance which we currently have under Governor Godwin Obaseki. I am happy with this government.”

Governor Obaseki's supporters have also been singing his praises on social media.

Sodiq Tade wrote: Don't let anybody deceive you that Obaseki didn't perform. Obaseki is for the Edo people’s interest and not some funny godfathers such as Oshiomole and Tinubu. Edo isn't Lagos!

Kelvin Odnaz wrote: I like the way most young Nigerians are taking a stance against godfatherism. Lagosians can continue being subservient to their own godfather. We stand against Oshiomhole's godfather campaign. If Obaseki finishes his term and wants to be a godfather, we will also speak against it.

Meanwhile, the traditional ruler of Ewatto Kingdom, in Esan South East local government area of Edo state, His Royal Highness, Sylvanus Ikhumhen, has reassured Governor Obaseki of the unalloyed support of the Esan people in the forthcoming election in the state.

The Onojie of Ewatto described the governor as the Messiah that Edo people have been waiting for.

According to him, Governor Obaseki’s reelection will ensure continuity of his sterling performance and consolidation on good governance in the state.

Legit.ng had earlier reported that Governor Obaseki, on Friday, August 14, urged his supporters in Edo state to go out en-masse and cast their votes for the PDP in the election.

The governor admonished his supporters to not only vote, but keep an eagle-eye on the process and the results as they unfold.

Recall that Governor Obaseki recently has approved all outstanding promotions in the state's public service.

“The Edo state government has approved all outstanding promotions in the state public service. “Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) are by this announcement directed to commence the process of the promotion exercise of eligible officers without delay.

“All accounting officers are to, with immediate effect ensure strict compliance with this directive,” a government statement announced.
