The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has described the Rivers State House of Assembly members who defected from the party to the All Progressives Congress, APC, as enemies of democracy in Nigeria.
Comrade Ini Ememobong, PDP National Publicity Secretary, said the lawmakers are doing the bidding of their demigod and paymasters.
In a statement he issued, Ememobong said the action of the lawmakers would go down in history as a mockery of the legislative arm of government.
On Friday, 17 lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly dumped the PDP for the APC.
The lawmakers were led by the Speaker, Martin Amaewhule, who announced their defection during plenary.
Amaewhule blamed the factionalization within the PDP for the development.
He told lawmakers he had formally notified his ward chairman of his exit from the PDP, adding that he had already joined the APC.
Condemning the action of the Rivers lawmakers, PDP said, “We have seen on various media platforms news of the defection of some members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who, for a second time, announced their defection from our party.
“We recall that they had done so earlier and later recanted. These are people whom the world is aware are doing the bidding of their paymaster and demigod.
“They will go down in history as enemies of democracy and those who made mockery of the legislature.”
