BayelsaDecides2023: More opposition parties reject Diri’s victory

Some opposition party agents including the Labour Party’s have rejected the final result of the Bayelsa State governorship polls.

Other parties include the National Rescue Movement, New Nigerian Peoples Party, Social Democratic Party and the Peoples Redemption Party.

Addressing a joint press briefing on Monday evening in Yenagoa, the state capital, the parties’ representatives, Charles Oyibo (LP), Williams Parker (NRM), Joel Tubonimi (NNPP) and Allen Amadein (SDP), claimed that the number of votes recorded for them by the Independent National Electoral Commission was far below what they garnered in the field.

“We are not comfortable with the results because INEC cancelled votes in areas that opposition parties were winning,” Amadein, an agent of the SDP said.

LP’s Oyibo said, “There were a lot of irregularities and flagrant abuse of the Electoral Act and BVAS were bypassed, and there was vote-buying.”

The NRM agent threatened that “we will go to court if INEC does not review the results within seven days.”

Also, the NNPP agent, Tubonimi said the commission merely awarded votes, stressing that “we are rejecting the results totally.”
