Bauchi APC divided over Bala Mohammed’s defection bid

Supporters of the Bauchi State governor, Bala Mohammed, have intensified moves to ensure the governor defects to the All Progressives Congress (APC) despite rejection by the statae caucus of the party.

Caucus of the APC in Bauchi State had on Tuesday opposed plans by the national leadership of the party to admit Governor Mohammed into the party.

Members of the caucus say his admission into the APC at this time will be detrimental to the party cohesion, credibility and electoral prospects in the state.”

Sources at a Tuesday night meeting of the caucus meeting which held in Abuja, said the members cited the governor’s past comments on the policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, insisting that his criticisms have caused division and acrimony in the governance.

Chairman of the Caucus, and Senator representing Bauchi North, Sama’ila Kaila Dahuwa, in a clip of from recordings at the meeting said the opposition to Mohammed’s planned admission into APC is flatly rejected.

Dahuwa explained that the caucus expressed concern that Mohammed had consistently engaged in public attacks against the President Bola Tinubu and the APC, including statements perceived to undermine the party’s unity and integrity.

He said, “Till today, he has neither retracted such statements nor made any formal efforts aimed at reconciliation with the leadership and the members of the party. He has no public apology to our knowledge.”

The caucus further declared that it would not support any move capable of compromising the party’s stability and fortunes.

A chieftain of the All Progressive Congress APC in Bauchi State Comrade Aliyu Abdullahi Ilelah however disclosed that majority of the party members of the APC in Bauchi State are ready to welcome the Governor.

He said only self centered politicians who are enemies of Tinubu’s victory in 2027 can oppose Governor Bala Mohammed move to decamp to APC.

Ilelah stated this on Wednesday when he addressed reporters in Bauchi, while reacting to a caucus meeting of APC stalwarts.led by Senator Samaila Dahuwa representing Bauchi North that opposed the move to accept Bauchi Governor in to APC ahead of the 2027 election.

Ilelah alleged that the action of the caucus was curious and borne out of bitterness and self centredness to achieve their personal interest rather than collective success of the APC at the polls 2027.

“It’s disrespectful to the leadership of the party and Mr President because while the President and the APC national leadership were busy reaching out to the governor, the so called caucus are on the other hand busy making attempt closing doors against a Governor. While the party is not their own alone”

All efforts made to get the reactions of the Bala Mohammed faction of the PDP through it’s Chairman Samaila Burga on the APC Caucus rejections were not successful as he neither picked several calls nor replied text message sent to him at the time of filing this report.

Another attempt to get the reactions of the governor about the APC Caucus position through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity Mukhtar Gidado was not successful either.
