Former Presidential candidate Peter Obi has disclosed that he remains a member of the Labour Party and will campaign for its governorship candidate ahead of the Anambra governorship election.
Obi, a former governor of the state, made the comment in a chat with journalists on Wednesday in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of the state.
According to him, all contenders contesting the polls are allies and encouraged them to place the state’s interest above personal ambition as they head into the poll.
“For this election, my party is Labour Party. I want a free and fair election. All the contestants are my friends. As a member of Labour Party, I am supporting our candidate, but not to the extent of vote buying because I can never buy votes.
“I cannot go to the extent of doing anything untoward for the election. I want the election to be totally free and fair. I’m not on the ballot, and I believe that all those contesting are related to me one way or the other. Let Anambra people decide who will be their governor. People should not indulge in vote buying. I’m not against any of them,” he said.
He added that he left office as governor 12 years ago at the age of 42, stressing that he has no personal interest in the election and insisting that the people of Anambra must be allowed to freely choose their next leader.
