Akeredolu pledges to combat Ayetoro sea incursion

Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu has declared war against the sea incursion that has plagued a riverine community in the state for several years.

The riverine community, based in Ilaje area of Ondo State, designated as Ayetoro, has battled the issue of rising tidal waves which swept significant parts of its community away.

The NDDC awarded the payment of N650m as mobilization fee to Gallet Nig Ltd in 2004 and awarded the same project to Dredging Atlantic 2013 at N6.5bn with N2.5bn mobilization fee, yet both companies failed to execute the contract.

Now, Prince Abayomi Akinruntan is leading the fight to regain the community from sea incursion. The lawmaker with the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP Coordinator of Ondo State handed over Etteh Aro & Partners to the community in preparation for a feasibility study and design of the Ayetoro Shoreline Protection Project.

Along with NEWMAP, hope is renewed.

It has taken our administration over two years of engagement with the @WorldBankAfrica to get to this point. We are happy to work with the @NEWMAP_NIGERIA team to actualize the Ayetoro Shoreline project. Many have tried but like always, we will certainly succeed in record time. https://t.co/SNbXhZWEg9 pic.twitter.com/Qw82P3VGl6— Arakunrin Akeredolu (@RotimiAkeredolu) May 22, 2020
