The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has registered 12 million members in the ongoing membership registration and revalidation, which started on February 9, the Secretary of the party’s Caretaker/Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Senator John James Akpanudoedehe, announced yesterday.

Akpanudoedehe spoke while inaugurating an eight-man Constitution Review Committee of the party, led by Professor Tahir Mamman, at the APC national secretariat in Abuja.

The committee, which has one month to carry out the task, is to also review the 105-page document ahead of the party’s national convention in June.

The membership registration, which was earlier slated to end on February 23, was extended to March 31, following requests for more registration forms by the state chapters of the party due to the influx of old and new members.

Akpanudoedehe said the registration had made APC the largest party in Africa.

“Our party has grown quite large in the last few years and is poised to become the largest party on the continent with the current membership registration and revalidation,” he said.

The party released 12 million registration forms at the take-off of the exercise to all the 119,973 polling units with each unit allotted 100 registration forms.

Two weeks into the exercise, APC national secretariat said it had to dispatch additional 200 registration forms to each of the polling units across the country.
