APC is future of democracy - Progressive governors

Governors of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), under the aegis of Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF), have said the party represents the future of the country’s democracy.

The governors said this in a statement by the forum’s Chairman and Kebbi State Governor Atiku Abubakar Bagudu. The occasion was the forum’s welcome party for Zamfara State Governor Bello Muhammadu Matawalle into the APC.

Matawalle, who defected from the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) last month, was formally presented to President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday by the party’s Caretaker Extra-Ordinary Convention Planning Committee (CECPC), Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Bagudu said the party, in the last six years of its existence, had used negotiations, consultations and winning agreements to attract new members.

The governor argued that the future of the country’s democracy lies in negotiations and consultations as veritable vehicles for engagements with all leaders, members, and all Nigerians, in line with provisions of our party’s constitution and the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He predicted that the guiding philosophy of the party, as enshrined in its manifesto, would produce landmark agreements that would facilitate the economic, social and political development of the country.  Bagudu urged all Nigerians who are committed to the nation’s progress to join the party.

Inviting more progressive-minded persons to the APC, the PGF chairman said: “Our party is open to all Nigerians who are committed to the progress of our country. We, in the forum, shall continue to mobilise and welcome all those who have a shared vision of supporting President Muhammadu Buhari and the party’s agenda to consolidate the progress made and further unify our fellow patriots across the country.”
