A faction of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State loyal to Senator Magnus Abe has expressed its readiness to participate in the forthcoming local government election billed for April.

The party, at its expanded executive committee meeting with caretaker committees of the 23 local government areas in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, which was presided over by its acting Chairman, Golden Ben-Chioma, vowed that it would no longer be excluded from ballots as it happened in 2019.

Ben-Chioma added that the party needed to reposition itself to avert a repeat of the backwardness it suffered in recent times.

The acting Chairman stated that the essence of the meeting was to give a situation report to members on the progress and preparation to participate in the council poll.

He said, “We have suffered a lot of political backwardness in recent times; we were not on the ballot in 2019, so we need to start afresh and make people remember that the APC is still in existence in Rivers State.

“We need to inform party members the decisions and happenings in the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission because the local government election is important to the party and we have indicated interest to run and there is a timeline and guideline already made public by the electoral body.”

He added, “We want all party members to be abreast with the information made available by the electoral body; that is why we called the meeting. It is also our first meeting in the year to see and thank ourselves for making it into the New Year alive.”
