Coronavirus mortality cases rise to 200 in Lagos

The Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, says the state’s COVID-19 related deaths have increased to 200.

Abayomi made the disclosure on his Twitter account on Monday, August 20, 2020 while giving the state’s COVID-19 update for August 8.

According to him, two coronavirus-related deaths were recorded, making the total death toll rise to 200.

He also added that, 71 new Coronavirus infections were confirmed out of a total of 844 tests conducted in the state on the reported day. As a result, the total confirmed Coronavirus infections has risen to 15,797.

The commissioner said: “2,269 of the confirmed cases have since been discharged from COVID-19 care centres following full recovery.”

He added that 11,860 of the confirmed cases monitored in communities by the COVID-19 Lagos Response Team are either positively responding to treatments or have fully recovered.

Prof. Abayomi, however, said that 1,400 active cases in communities were yet to turn up for admission in the state’s COVID-19 care centres.

Also, data by the World Health Organisation Africa Region shows that there are 1,047,049 confirmed COVID-19 cases on the continent, with over 730,000 recoveries and 23,258 deaths.
