Six PL staff test positive for COVID-19 after mass testing

At least six Premier League staff from three clubs have been diagnosed with the deadly coronavirus out of 748 total tests conducted, the PL announced on Tuesday.

This comes after the PL clubs recently agreed to begin training in groups ahead of the "Project Restart" which could see the league resumed on June 12.

According to Sky Sports, the first phase of mass testing was conducted over the weekend though it is unclear whether they include players, non-playing staff or a combination of both.

The PL, however, withheld, the identity of the clubs and individuals for data protection reasons, and clubs are expected to take part in the second phase of testing later this week.

According to Sky Sports, the testing was done for all staff member of 19 clubs in the PL. The last will be concluded on Tuesday.

"The Premier League can today confirm that on Sunday, May 17 and Monday, May 18, 748 players and club staff were tested for COVID-19," a Premier League statement read on Tuesday.

"Of these, six have tested positive from three clubs. Players or club staff who have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of seven days.

"The Premier League is providing this aggregated information for the purposes of competition integrity and transparency. No specific details as to clubs or individuals will be provided by the League and results will be made public in this way after each round of testing."
