Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State has said that no member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in the state has tested positive for coronavirus.

The state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Donald Ojogo, had earlier stated that the third case of the virus is a Corps member who had attended to the first index case in the state,

“The third positive case in Ondo State is a medical doctor; he is a Youth Corp member attached to the Army Clinic at the Barracks and had attended to the first index case while he was under observation", Ojogo was quoted to have said.

However, Akeredolu who issued a statement on social media ahead of an address to the state, clarified that the new case is an ex-corps member and not a current member of the NYSC.

The governor shared: "The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control confirmed another case of COVID-19 in Ondo State. The reported case is a close contact of the index case who was also put in isolation but was tested once they began to display symptoms.

"The new case brings the total number of confirmed cases in Ondo State to three (3). Infected person is not a current National Youth Service Corps - NYSC corps member as stated online.

"Individual was an ex corps member that served in the hospital where the index case was identified and was retained.

"As it is typical for all cases, all protocol for contact tracing have been activated with those closest to the new case kept in isolation for observation. I will be addressing the State soon".
