Lockdown violators to face stiff punishment if caught - FRSC warns

The Federal Road Safety Commission - FRSC has issued a warning to all non-essitial workers who are planning to violate the lockdown order that they will face stiff punishment.

Speaking through the FRSC's Public Education Officer Bisi Kazeem, the Corps Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, directed Sector Commanders of FCT and Lagos State to work with authorities to ensure effective Mobile Court operations for violators of the COVID-19 lockdown order.

According to the statement read on Friday, lockdown defaulters would face various kinds of punishments, including compulsory community service.

“For individuals arrested violating the order, they will be liable to pay the sum of N10000 as fine and also engage in community service for 7 days.

“Tricycle Operators who violate will pay the sum of N7000, while Motorcycle operators will pay N7000, Cars N20000, and Trucks N50000. All the fines also attract a 7-day compulsory community service.”

In Abuja, Kazeem disclosed that the Mobile Court will operate at 3 different locations – Mpape, Dantata Bridge by Airport Road and AYA Roundabout.

“Violators of the lockdown order will be tried and if found guilty, will be fined and their vehicles impounded until the lockdown order is lifted”, he added.

FRSC cautioned non-essential workers to stay in their homes as the government battles to curtail the spread of coronavirus.
