The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) has told the Nigeria Customs to release 150 trucks of rice seized from smugglers for nationwide distribution.

This is coming after veteran actor, Richard Mofe-Damijo suggested that the release should be carried out as Nigeria battles the spread of coronavirus.

Nigeria has recorded a total of 238 positive cases with five deaths and 35 recoveries as of April 7, according to the NCDC.

To curb the spread of the deadly virus, the FG ordered a two-week lockdown in Lagos, Abuja and Ogun states.

The FG made the announcement via a tweet on its official Twitter account @NigeriaGov in a statement which reads:

"As part of palliative measures in light of the #Covid19 pandemic, President @MBuhari has approved the release by @CustomsNG of 150 trucks of rice seized from smugglers, to @FMHDSD for distribution across the country."
