Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu has reacted to the coronavirus cases recorded in Gombe State.

Giving a situation report about the cases, Ihekweazu said the cases escalated very quickly.

Nonetheless, the DG noted that it was a struggle and the NCDC team in Gombe was working very hard in combating the cases.

"Gombe went from 0 to a high number in a few days. It is a challenge and we are all working on a supply chain for reagents, food and everything. That viral video wasn't the right presentation of our response," the DG defended his team.

Recall that on Tuesday in the Kwadon community of Gombe State, COVID-19 patients at an isolation centre in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area forced their way out of the facility to protest alleged poor treatment by the state government and the coronavirus taskforce.

Nearly 20 patients took over the federal highway linking Gombe State with neighbouring Borno State.

The patients said they were not properly cared for, and that their conditions had worsened and they prefer to get outside for self-medication and proper care.
